Ukrainian Children in Italy
An Unforgettable Trip of Ukrainian Children to Italy at the Invitation of the Holy See
At the invitation of the Holy See, 42 Ukrainian children affected by the war took part in a warm and inspiring trip to Italy. During their stay, the children spent a wonderful time in the charming Italian town of Postiglione, surrounded by care, sincere smiles, and an atmosphere of safety and joy.
The program of the trip was rich and educational. The children visited Rome, including Piazza Pio XII and Saint Peter’s Square, the Vatican, the historic town of Teggiano, the unique Pertosa-Auletta Caves (Grotte di Pertosa-Auletta), as well as the town of Eboli, where they enjoyed the seaside at Rainbow Beach.
The most touching and memorable moment of the journey was the meeting with the Pope. The Holy Father warmly welcomed the Ukrainian children, blessed them for a happy future, and prayed together with them for peace in Ukraine. This encounter left a deep impression on the children’s hearts and became a powerful symbol of support and hope.
The children were welcomed with great joy and warmth by the Caritas charitable organization, which organized refreshments, caring support, and an exceptionally heartfelt reception, giving the children a sense of family comfort and genuine attention.
This trip marked the first event within the “Children at Home” project of the Joint Center under the Security Service of Ukraine, and became the very first project for children of the SBU since the Center’s establishment. The project operates in support of the BringKidsBackUA initiative of the President of Ukraine, aimed at the return and reintegration of Ukrainian children.
Efforts to return and reintegrate Ukrainian children are warmly supported by friendly countries. In this case, by the Vatican, which consistently draws attention to the fate of Ukrainian children in occupation and emphasizes the urgent need for their return.
This journey became not only a time of rest for the children, but also an important step toward healing, restoring faith in kindness, and feeling that the world stands with Ukrainian children and does not remain indifferent to their fate.
